Did NOT regret this dress
I wasn’t too sure about this dress when I found it in the clearance section in store, plus it wasn’t quite my size, but I’m so glad I bought it! I wore it in September in Louisiana heat, and the velvet portion didn’t bother me because it’s not the same material on the inside. The dress has some stretch to it, and I did add something over my arms, but overall I felt amazing & looked even better in this dress!

Omg I cannot express my happiness enough with this dress. First off, this was my very first time wearing a body tight dress, I've always been shy of my body and my legs. I went out on a date night with my husband and I felt sexy, literally sexy. I felt beautiful and classy. My husband loved it and asked me to wear dresses that made me feel good about myself. I bought for a birthday dinner. I purchased a size 14 and I could've sized down. I am currently 6m pregnant so it still works for since the dress will be wearable as I keep growing. The velvet gave the dress a more classy look matched with my jewelry. Definitely a keeper.

Nice pencil skirt/dress
Bought this in a 16. Surprised by how well it fit (in the process of losing weight but normally buy an 18, just in case). The rich black velvet against the matte gray mesh of the skirt creates a really unique and pretty appearance without being overly formal. This would look incredible with a black, well-fitted blazer!
My only complaint is that the mesh isn't stitched in place at the center (where your legs come together). Not in the front and not in the back. I assume this is to let the mesh appear to "hang" loose rather than bunch up when you walk. But! It creates a weird, baggy feeling below the butt. Since the material is so dark, I doubt this is noticeable. It's just causes this weird "hanging" feeling at the back of your thighs, like the dress is sticking to you but not... It's weird.
Otherwise, super soft material, but keep a lint roller handy. Velvet is notorious for letting every piece of dust and lint stick to it. Catch this on sale, and it's worth a buy just for the unique mix of materials. Plus, it's a pencil skirt that actually looks good!!

Very forgiving fabric!
This dress is gorgeous! I was very surprised that for a bodycon dress, this fabric is very forgiving. I will be exchanging for a size down. As someone mentioned, they think it's for taller girls-Reference points: 5'8", 240lbs, 44DDD between a size 1-2 in most Torrid clothes. Hits perfectly on my legs (I would say I'm pretty evenly proportioned in regards to torso/leg length). Despite my large bust and wide shoulders, I'm still able to size down.

Love the fabric
I am 5'2 and a size 2x. The dress fabric is really comfy and stretched. It fits snug on your hips. I have a pear shaped body so I'm smaller at the top. The dress fit very lose around my neck and back and shoulders. This is my birthday dress....I definitely think I could go down in a size, but I'm going to try and alter the dress to fit perfectly. And could've been shorter.

This dress looks very nice online, but once I gotten it- it gave me mixed feelings about the dress both by look and by trying it on. First off, the dress is a lovely cut and fit, but upon trying it on- I noticed a few things..
Pros: The dress is a lovely cut, the velvet area gives it a form fitting look with the high neck cut. The bottom of the dress hugs your curves and the ruched look on the sides gives it that bodycon form fitting look. This would be a nice dress to wear a night out to dinner, lounge for happy hour, club etc!
Cons:
The dress has 2 different materials but shown two different black toned colors. I asked family members and my fiancé about the dress. Most pointed out the 2 different black toned color, making the bottom look like a washed out black and the upper dress look like the black stayed intact- like it never washed out.
Another con was the dress is made for average height people who aren't on the short end side, so the dress went just between my knees and ankles. Maybe if you were at least 5'5" or taller, it may be at knee length or just above the knee. You CAN get this tailored, but you shouldn't for the sale price.
For reference, I am 5'2" tall, at 190 pounds in a 44C bra.. Sz 0 in Foxy tank tops.. Sz 1 in Torrid shirts.. Sz 16 short in pants.. I bought this in a size 16 and it fit well, possibly can size down but it may be too fitted for my bust area.. I can only suggest to Torrid that they make dresses in Short, Regular and Tall girls like they do with bottoms like pants. As for the two-toned black issue, it could be my lighting that makes it look like this, but just be cautious when purchasing.

Needs A Different Neck
Love the mixture of fabrics on this dress. The fit is great. Just wish it had a more flattering neck line. Mock necks are for people with necks. Torrid, please make this with a v-neck and raglan sleeves....a universally flattering neckline and fit.

I wanted to love this but if you are a short gal like I am it is definitely not “at the knee” it was almost to my calves and it gave off grandma vibes. I need torrid to make more short cut dresses. I would also suggest sizing down.
