anatomy of a bra
1. STRAPS
The straps hold the cups (and everything else) in place. They should be snug to offer the best support – check adjustable straps often and tighten if needed.
2. CUPS
The cups create shape and silhouette. The coverage is up to you – full coverage, demi cups (half the coverage) or plunge (deep V in the center). Plus, cups can be unlined (think bralettes and bandeaus), lightly lined, contouring memory foam or push-up with padding.
3. THE BAND
A powerhouse of support! The band should sit straight across your back. Opt for a 360° Back Smoothing™ style with a curved band to smooth and sculpt.
4. UNDERWIRE
Choose a flexible underwire style when you need extra support and added lift. (Yoga, anyone?)
BRA CARE
The best way to care for your bras is to have at least 3: one to wear, one to wash and one to rest. Rotating them allows elastics to recover.
Wash your bras by hand or on delicate cycle in cold water with a gentle soap. Clasp hooks and use a lingerie bag in a washing machine.
Hang or lay flat to dry. Never put bras in the dryer as heat can distort cups and ruin elastics.
Store your bras in their natural state by stacking them front or back. Avoid folding the bra in half.
TIPS FOR THE PERFECT FIT
1. the high riser
If your band is riding up your straps could be too tight. Try loosening a bit.
Or you may need a bigger cup or band size.
You want the band to sit even across your back for a straight-up sexy fit.
2. the peek under
Spilling out from under your bra? Try a tighter hook closure or go down
a band size… or you can even go up a cup size. Your underwire should
encircle your breasts and sit against your body to keep the girls
perfectly under wraps.
3. side over flow
Peeking out at the sides? You may need to loosen your straps. If that
doesn’t do the trick, try a larger cup size. You want a smooth silhouette.
Just say no to side overflow!
4. the spill over
Adjust your straps with every wear (allow 2 fingers under each strap).
If you still have slipping straps, you may want to try a style with narrow-set
straps like a Balconette or Plunge bra. If straps are digging in, try a smaller
band size to get the support you need.
5. the dig
Straps rubbing you the wrong way? Try loosening them up.
If you’re still under pressure, you may need a larger cup size.
No one digs straps that are digging in!
6. the gape
Gaping cups? Make sure your straps aren’t too loose or try going down a
cup size to get a snug, contouring fit. Smaller size not working out?
Try a different bra style altogether. Puckering and wrinkling
have no place here!
7. the slide
Give sliding straps the slip once and for all! Try tightening
straps to keep them in place or go for a crisscross style. Still slipping?
You may need a smaller band size. You can also try a ballet back.
It’s about time you slipped into something more comfortable.
8. the squeeze
Band digging in to your sides? Try a looser hook on the band.
Still cutting in?
You may need a larger band size. You want
a gentle hug without any pinching – your main squeeze
shouldn’t be your bra!
